Statistical studies on the occurrence of multiple sclerosis have determined that in the general population of the US, the average person has a 1 in 1000 chance of developing MS, but if that person has a close relative with MS, the occurrence of MS increases to 1 in 50.

He was only 21 when I met Savid and I never really had the opportunity to speak to him but did speak to his mother on a regular basis. He was a very young boy when he contracted the disease. His mother often said that it began in his feet which made it difficult for him to walk. He had experienced numbness, pain and a sudden onset of paralysis (a symptom similar to stroke but without a cardiovascular connection.) He suffered from depression which is one of the most common symptoms of MS- the result of the impact it had on his life.

Hand tremors are one of the most obvious multiple sclerosis symtoms and uncontrollable shaking is seen readily. Savid exhibited no shaking while at rest though.
